Where Is the Person Being Held in Montana?
Montana does not have the same large network of dedicated ICE detention centers found in some other states. The main Montana facility with current documented immigration detention use is in Great Falls.

Cascade County operates the detention center and currently works with federal agencies, including ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, to house certain detainees.

Someone taken into immigration custody in Montana may not remain near the place where they were arrested. A person may be held temporarily at one location and later transferred to another facility, including a facility outside Montana.
Confirm the current detention location before traveling.
The Arrest Location May Not Be the Detention Location
Someone detained in Helena, Billings, Bozeman, Missoula or another Montana community may later be moved to Great Falls or transferred outside the state.
Do not assume the arrest location tells you where the person is currently being held.
Before traveling, confirm:
- Current detention location
- Whether the person remains in Montana
- Whether an immigration bond has already been set
Detention Facility, ICE Office and Immigration Court Are Different
These locations serve different purposes. For example, ICE maintains offices in Helena and Billings, but those locations should not be confused with Cascade County Detention Center in Great Falls.
Detention Facility
Where the person is physically being held in custody (e.g. Cascade County Detention Center in Great Falls).
ICE Office
Handles certain immigration custody, check-in and enforcement matters (e.g. ICE offices in Helena and Billings).
Immigration Court
Handles the immigration proceeding and court schedule. Jurisdiction depends on official EOIR records.

Immigration Court Information in Montana
The detention location does not automatically tell you which Immigration Court is handling the case. Current EOIR administrative information distinguishes between different types of Montana cases. The Helena DHS District Office is associated administratively with the Portland Immigration Court, while certain Montana Department of Corrections matters are listed under the Tacoma Immigration Court.
Cascade County Detention Center is not specifically identified in EOIR's current administrative-control list.
For that reason, always use:
- The person's current hearing notice
- Current EOIR case information
- Any updated notice received after a transfer
Do not assume the court simply from the Great Falls detention address.
