Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator with the person's A-Number, or search by full legal name, country of birth and date of birth. A transfer can happen before the family receives complete information.
When contacting the facility, have the person's full legal name, date of birth, country of birth and A-Number if available. Detainees cannot receive incoming calls.

Where Is the Immigration Bond Paid?
Pennington County Jail is not listed as South Dakota's public ICE bond-acceptance office. ICE lists 2708 N. 1st Avenue in Sioux Falls for government bond acceptance and says to call (605) 330-4276 for an appointment.
Government cash-bond procedures are different from using Amistad. After approval and completion of the applicable requirements, Amistad submits the immigration surety bond electronically through ICE eBonds, so you do not need to travel to Sioux Falls to begin with Amistad.
Do not travel without verification: Government hours, acceptable payment methods and appointment requirements can change. Check the official ICE bond-acceptance list before visiting.
Which Immigration Court Handles the Case?
There is no public immigration court listed inside Pennington County Jail. The official hearing notice and EOIR case-status information determine which court is handling the case and whether a hearing is in person, by video or otherwise.
EOIR lists Fort Snelling Immigration Court for non-detained South Dakota cases and certain South Dakota correctional matters. A detained person's court assignment may be different, especially after a transfer. Do not mail filings based only on the jail address.
Court record controls: Use the official hearing notice and EOIR case information. A transfer can change the practical court location without changing it immediately in family records.
Bond Already Set?
If ICE or an immigration judge has already set the bond amount, call with the person's name, A-Number, current facility and bond amount. You can start the Amistad process from outside Rapid City or outside South Dakota.
Amistad does not decide whether a bond is available or set the amount. If no bond has been set or you need legal advice about eligibility, speak with a licensed immigration attorney.
What to Have Ready
- Full legal name
- A-Number, if available
- Confirmed location: Pennington County Jail or another facility
- Bond amount, if already set
You do not need every item before calling. Start with what you have and Amistad will explain what is still needed.
What Happens After Amistad Submits the Bond?
After the application, payment or collateral, agreement and ICE confirmation requirements are complete, Amistad submits the approved surety bond electronically through ICE eBonds.
ICE reviews the bond. If it is approved, Pennington County Jail or the person's current facility coordinates release. Timing varies and cannot be guaranteed.
