The Facility, ICE and the Immigration Court Have Different Jobs
1. The Detention Facility
The local jail or detention center where the person is physically held. Contact the facility for custody status, visitation rules, telephone procedures and mail.
2. ICE (Homeland Security)
ICE controls civil custody and transfers. ICE officers make the initial custody and bond determination when a person is taken into civil detention.
3. The Immigration Court
An immigration judge may review a custody or bond decision when jurisdiction exists. Court proceedings are separate from ICE appointments or jail visits.
If an Immigration Bond Has Been Set
An immigration bond is federal and separate from bail in a Missouri criminal case. Gather as much information as possible before calling.
